When you cross paths with fellow creatives and feel an instant connection, magic is bound to happen! That's exactly what I experienced when I had the honor of meeting Mickey and Michelle, a talented harp and violin duo from Melbourne, amidst the majestic Southern Alps of New Zealand. Little did I know that our shared creative moment would touch my heart in ways I couldn't imagine.
These incredible souls were on a remarkable journey, hiking the length of New Zealand along the Aurora Trail to raise funds for Osteoporosis. But, just like the rest of the world, their plans were put on hold due to the unexpected chaos of COVID-19. However, in 2022, they decided to pick up where they left off and fulfil their mission. They embarked on a series of gigs in adorable, quirky NZ towns, thanks to the kind-hearted locals who not only provided transportation for their musical instruments but also offered accommodation and plenty of support when they played these gigs.
And that's how destiny brought us together. They were captivated by the enchanting Southern Alps and stayed with the amazing Viv Barrett, a beloved member of the local Methven community. Mickey and Michelle expressed their desire to have a photo shoot in the breathtaking mountains. After some logistical challenges and phone calls, we managed to squeeze it in between their shows with no room for unpredictable weather.
That photo shoot was an unforgettable adventure! With this amazing couple, who radiated creativity and an adventurous spirit, we set out on the Mt Hutt access road. As we ascended, we found ourselves engulfed in a mystical whiteout fog. But instead of getting discouraged, we laughed, enjoyed a delicious treat or two, sipped on drinks, and eagerly awaited the fog to dissipate. And boy, were we rewarded! The fog cleared, unveiling the most stunning sunset high up in the sky. The melodies of Michelle's harp and Mickey's violin resonated throughout the mountain peaks, creating goosebumps that still linger within me to this day. It almost feels surreal that this extraordinary night almost didn't happen. But when you pour your heart and soul into something and give it your all, incredible things can be achieved!
