Honoring Love, Life & Legacy on Your Wedding Day

Honoring Love, Life & Legacy on Your Wedding Day

Weddings are filled with so many emotions—joy, excitement, love… and sometimes, a bittersweet undercurrent when a loved one is unwell or no longer with us.

I feel deeply honored when couples reach out to me, often on short notice, to document their wedding because a parent or family member is terminally ill. They may have heard of me, connected with my story, or simply felt my genuine desire to make everyone feel loved, valued, seen, and treasured on such a monumental day.

I am not afraid of grief or loss—quite the opposite. I walk towards it with an open heart, capturing the most precious moments while helping families be present, embrace joy, and create a lasting legacy. Because when the time comes, photographs hold the power to bring us right back to the love, the laughter, and the life shared.

When I step into a wedding where emotions run deep, I read the room. I look at Mum and Dad and ask myself:

If I were them, how would I want to remember this day for the rest of my life?

How would I want my son or daughter to look back on these memories?

For many, it’s about setting aside illness for one day—to celebrate fully, to laugh, to dance, to embrace, to hold hands tightly, to look into the eyes of their loved ones with pride, love, and joy.

I understand the complex emotions of love and loss. I felt them myself on my wedding day. In the quiet hours before dawn, I found myself sitting on my mother’s cherished velvet chairs, reflecting on my late father and brother. I imagined their teasing banter, their laughter, their presence in my heart. That moment reminded me that even when someone is not physically there, they are still part of the journey.

If you are planning your wedding while navigating the reality of an unwell or absent loved one, you are not alone. I will be there to capture the big moments, the small glances, the deep hugs—the love that will live on in your photographs forever.

And if you're looking for a song to honour a loved one who has passed, I’ll Save You a Seat by Alex Warren is one of my favorites. ❤️
